Warning Signs You Aren't Getting Enough Sleep

Warning Signs You Aren't Getting Enough Sleep

Getting high-quality rest is one of the cornerstones of good health. When you miss out on sleep or have restless sleep, your entire well-being suffers. Today, we’re going to look at some of the warning signs you aren’t getting enough rest:

PHYSICAL WARNING SIGNS

When you “look tired,” this can refer to many things. Most commonly, the skin around your eyes will begin to look dark and almost bruised. As you get more sleep-deprived, you’ll start to notice more fine lines and wrinkles, swelling around your eyes when you initially wake up in the morning, and you will notice that your skin is less elastic.

Your body does most of its tissue repair while you rest. So outwardly, you’re going to see a decrease in elasticity and collagen. While skin damage is bad enough, It’s what you aren’t seeing that you should worry about.

If you aren’t getting enough rest, inflammation can rise within your body – affecting your organs, muscles, and other tissues – even your brain.

OXIDATIVE STRESS

Your body will also struggle to eliminate toxins and free radicals – which can lead to oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is the silent culprit behind a number of health issues. If you’ve experienced brain fog, persistent fatigue, muscle aches that are seemingly without cause – chances are, you’ve experienced oxidative stress.

Sleep is when most of your brain’s antioxidant and detoxification systems turn on; lacking sleep does not allow for this essential daily clean-up routine.

Our Tart Cherry Extract supplement is a great way to combat the damage from oxidative stress. Tart cherries naturally contain an abundance of antioxidants, which help your body neutralize harmful free radicals and keeps oxidative stress at bay.

Tart cherries also naturally contain melatonin, which helps you fall asleep – and stay asleep.

You may also gain weight if you aren’t getting enough sleep. Poor rest can negatively impact your metabolism – and as you go throughout your day feeling tired, you may reach for quick energy-boosting snacks that aren’t healthy. Sugary snacks or energy drinks may give you a quick boost of energy but aren’t good for you in the long run.

OTHER WARNING SIGNS

You may start to feel moody or depressed. Irritability is very common in those who aren’t getting enough sleep. What’s worse, depression can lead to poor sleep, and the opposite is true as well – poor sleep can lead to depression.

You may start to experience brain fog. You may feel groggy and unable to concentrate like you used to.

If you don’t get enough rest at night, your mornings are going to feel off as well. If you wake up with a sore throat, dry mouth, or headache, these are all signs that you aren’t sleeping well. You may have sleep apnea or be snoring at night, which causes you to wake up often in the middle of your sleep cycles.

CBD is a great way to help restore restful sleep. It’s a natural pain reliever and inflammation reducer – both things that can contribute to poor quality rest. CBD works by engaging your body’s endocannabinoid system and has a balancing effect by binding to and reacting with certain receptors.

For example – your body has inflammation receptors that trigger an inflammatory response. Cytokine storms happen with an overly aggressive inflammatory response. Sometimes, these receptors can get over-stimulated, producing too much inflammation.

CBD binds to these receptors, inhibiting this response and therefore reducing inflammation. CBD balances and calms your immune system as it fights off disease and injury.

Your endocannabinoid system also controls the release of hormones that promote sleep, and CBD can help balance out your circadian rhythms so you can enjoy more restful sleep.
