Resveratrol & Brain Health
Our Nervous System Multi was designed with key ingredients like Luteolin, Omega-3’s, Chlorella, and more to support all elements of neural tissue health.
This multi only includes ingredients shown to assist in protecting frayed nerves and protecting them from future damage, while providing antioxidant benefits to the whole nervous system as well.
One of the ingredients is resveratrol. We’re going to look at its overall benefits for nervous system health – and focus on its brain health benefits as well!
WHAT IS RESVERATROL?
WHAT IS RESVERATROL?
Resveratrol is an antioxidant that is found naturally in red wine and foods like chocolate, peanuts, japanese knotweed and grapes. For plants, resveratrol functions to fight infection, UV radiation damage, stress and injury.
These benefits, like most phytochemical benefits, translate well to the human condition. In addition to its antioxidant benefits, it also may activate sirtuins -which are proteins that are associated with better oxidative metabolism and increased mitochondrial function.
One study found that “Low-to-moderate red wine consumption appeared to reduce age-related neurological disorders including macular degeneration, stroke, and cognitive deficits with or without dementia. Resveratrol has been considered as one of the key ingredients responsible for the preventive action of red wine since the stilbene displays a neuroprotective action in various models of toxicity.”
Red wine can have health benefits when used in moderation. But since the main compound responsible for its benefits, resveratrol, can be isolated and taken as a nutritional supplement, you can experience red wine’s benefits without any of its side effects.
Resveratrol is a stilbene. Stilbenes are known to possess antitumor, anticarcinogenic and antioxidative properties. In Japan, Itadori tea is used as medicine. Itadori tea is a great source of resveratrol. Itadori tea is brewed with young knotweed shoots.
RESVERATROL BENEFITS FOR BRAIN HEALTH
Its antioxidant benefits impact all areas of the nervous system, which includes brain health! But resveratrol has other benefits that directly impact brain function as well.
As we age, our cognitive health naturally begins to decline. This has been thought inevitable – but you can slow the progression with changes in diet, improvements in your lifestyle, and by adding certain supplements to your routines. Most of ‘aging’ is simply a lack of control of oxidative stress in our opinion.
The same study concluded that “…long-term treatment with adequate dosages of resveratrol with improved bioavailability could exert clinically significant protective effects against cognitive decline in humans.”
Aging and its effects are sometimes considered inevitable. But with the right lifestyle changes, you can maintain your mobility and prolong your cognitive health well into your golden years!
Powerful Antioxidant
Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant supplement that has been shown to slow down the effects of aging via Sirtuin protein activation and activate AMPK proteins.
AMPK regulates energy production and reduces the signs of aging at a cellular level. Sirtuins are a group of proteins that regulate metabolism, stress responses, and aging processes.
