Brain Support: Why I Take Omega-3 and Resveratrol Daily
WHY YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOUR BRAIN
Hi, Dr. Meredith Warner here:
For those that don’t know me, I’m an Air Force Veteran and have a private Orthopedic Surgery practice in Baton Rouge, LA.
As we age, our bodies slowly lose their function over time. Your brain is no exception to this rule. Losing cognitive function can result in dementia – and Alzheimer’s has been on the rise for the last 20 years.
Many factors contribute to poor brain health.
Things like diabetes, high blood pressure, and more can increase the risk of dementia. Anything that puts strain on the body, like injuries, poor lifestyle, lack of good sleep, and more can also impact brain health.
Brains are very sensitive to inflammation and as most of us exist with a state of chronic neuroinflammation, our brains are at risk of deterioration.
Mitochondrial damage and death is probably the source of all lifestyle diseases, including osteoarthritis; mitochondrial damage is a direct result of that oxidative stress and chronic inflammation.
Our Most Powerful Multi
Nervous System Multi
“I designed this multi to combat nerve-based sources of pain and neuroinflammation specifically. There aren’t many natural options that exist for those suffering from conditions like neuropathy, and the pharmaceutical options that are commonly prescribed often have damaging side effects.” – Dr. Meredith Warner
OMEGA 3
We all want to protect our brains as we age. So what can you do?
One of the best things you can do is supplement with nutrients that support the brain.
Here are a few I recommend. Let’s start with Omega 3.
Omega-3s maintain the nerve membrane and myelin sheath health. Myelin is the material that surrounds nerves and allows for efficient conduction of the electrical signal. Omega-3s help to keep the cell membranes of neural tissue flexible and this improves their function.
Omega-3 consists of EPA and DHA. EPA is involved in the functionality of a cell such as signaling. DHA is more important for the structural properties of a cell, such as the cell’s membrane. Both of these Omega-3’s are essential for better cell health in different ways!
It is well known now that the proper amount of Omega-3 as opposed to Omega-6 in our bodies and brains is important to reduce chronic inflammation. If Omega-3 is in the cell wall rather than Omega-6, not only is it more flexible – but it also produces less damaging inflammation.
RESVERATROL
Resveratrol is known to be highly anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiapoptotic and anticancer. It attenuates mitochondrial impairment by stressors.
It upregulates mitochondrial antioxidant-forming enzymes and this decreases the load of ROS (oxygen reactive species) in the mitochondria. ROS are free radicals, which are produced as your body undergoes its natural processes.
But when your body cannot create enough antioxidants to neutralize free radicals like ROS, oxidative damage can occur.
ROS in your mitochondria can negatively impact the overall function of your cell, particularly the energy output. In addition to protecting mitochondria from damaging oxidative stress, resveratrol has also been shown to increase the production of mitochondria.
From mitochondrial health in the brain to frayed nerve endings, each ingredient in our surgeon-designed multi is handpicked to optimize nervous system health. Because of its highly antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredients, our multi is an excellent choice for improving nervous system health.
PALMITOYLETHANOLAMIDE (PEA)
PEA is naturally produced in your body to relieve inflammation. It’s part of your body’s natural response to protect itself from cellular damage, and when taken as a supplement gives you natural relief and protection without heavy medicinal fog.
PEA and the family of fatty acid ethanolamines (FAE) are involved in cell protection. They are part of the human’s innate system of endogenous protection from cellular damage. These lipid mediators are activated by tissue damage, inflammatory processes and nociceptive fibers.
PEA acts to restore cellular and mitochondrial balance. PEA offers a safe and natural method to manage neuropathic pain; it is tolerated very well and there are no known side effects. This is a naturally occurring lipid mediator that is an inflammation resolver.
Chlorella
Chlorella is a type of algae and is often used for its cognition benefits with age and for weight control and cancer protection. It is known for its ability to bind heavy metals, which can produce free radicals that cause damaging oxidative stress.
We are exposed to heavy metals of a toxic nature by pollution of the air, ground, and water in our communities. Chlorella is also able to help lower levels of dioxin – a hormone disruptor found in many foods.
Chlorella species and other microalgae provide protection against neurotoxicity from metals like lead.
The antioxidants considered to be present in Chlorella are beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, vitamin C, and chlorophyll. These act to help reduce the presence of advanced glycation end products (AGE). This means that chlorella is powerfully antioxidant both in terms of its ability to provide antioxidants, and protect from oxidative stressors like heavy metals.
LUTEOLIN
Luteolin regulates the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. It effectively suppresses inflammation within brain tissues and regulates cell signaling pathways for healthier and more efficient neural signaling.
Among the family of flavonoids, luteolin has a wide range of activities. Flavonoids are neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory.
Flavonoids are antioxidants and are critical to control oxidative stress in the mitochondria and cells of the central and peripheral nervous systems.
NAC – N-ACETYL L-CYSTEINE
NAC supports our internal systems that protect us from stress, infections, inflammatory conditions and heavy oxidative stress. It’s both a natural antioxidant and helps your body produce its own antioxidants, particularly glutathione – your body’s major naturally produced antioxidant.
NAC acts to detoxify our bodies and brains. Glutathione is depleted by toxins that enter the system. NAC provides for restoration of normal levels.
NAC provides extra protection to our brains and bodies by enhancing our natural antioxidant abilities.
Because of its ability to enhance antioxidant production, NAC is highly protective of our cells and cellular function.
